Attempted #2 went down yesterday with amazing success! So yummy. My wife is a very happy girl (this time around). After careful reflection on what went wrong on the first go, I recalled taking a call when I as adding salt, recipe says 3 tsp which is 1 tbsp, I suspect I grabed the tbsp and intended to do that once but put in three thinking I was doing tsp and not wanting to stray fromt the recipe format. Live and learn. Thanks.

I made this with whole wheat flower and used Mexican chorizo like the kind you have with eggs in the morning. I think I goofed on the salt because the bread was just too salty. Like a pretzel salty. I am gonna try it again though! It was salty good! HA HA

Here in New York City, there are dozens of bakeries in Queens, Brooklyn, and the Bronx that sell lard bread, which is a southern Italian delicacy made with pancetta, prosciutto, sausage, black pepper, and, of course, lard.

Also, you can get morcilla and fresh chorizo in most butcher shops (and many grocery stores) in any of the Latino barrios (try Jackson Heights, Corona, and Sunset Park to name but three).

I made this for a work easter afternoon tea (minus the Morcilla for the philistines), and it was extemely popular, and made a change to the chocolate eggs and Hot Cross Buns that everyone else bought. 3 people asked me for the recipe and I referred them to this site.

[...] Hornazo (chorizo and egg bread) may be technically a bread made in Spain for Easter-time, but it doesn’t mean it wouldn’t get you the “wow” factor at brunch on Christmas Day! [...]
