Hi, Marc! I've gotta say, you're comment really pleased me. It was like the comment that validated everything we're trying to do w/ this blog. Thank you so much for 'getting it' as well. Just checked out your menu in NC and I've gotta say, if we're ever down in your neck of the woods, we've got to check your restaurant out! Delcious. And I'm so glad you understand about trying not to be condescending while still wanting to talk and read about food in an intelligent, authentic and creative way. There IS such a thing as food theory! I'm so glad you can see that stuff in us. GRACIAS!! Please stop by again.

I'm glad you had a chance to dine there. Gabrielle Hamilton is one of my favorite chefs, and though I've transplanted to the south (where, at least in Charlotte, the use of local heirloom products and preservation of local food types is more the norm then the exception) I always recommend Prune to my customers that are heading back to my old stomping grounds! Great blog by the way, it's always good to see foodies who "get it" which isn't meant to be condescending, but rather in the way that chefs talk about food, food ideas and food theory. It can be tough to make a statement and a living at the same time, but when customers become part of that conversation it makes it all the more worthwhile!

Terrific restuarant review - makes me want to jump on the next flight to NYC to try some of these delights. I agree that it is fun to try more adventurous dishes when eating out than your usual chicken, beef and pork.

Actually, i've stopped in at tuck shop once last year and had their sausage roll and I wasn't crazy about it. That said, the kind of stuff they sell was the kind of food I grew up eating in UK (with the exception of the thai pot pie), so that may account for my lack of enthusiasm. And while I know it has an Australian theme, even the name "Tuck Shop" itself is derived from the English public (therefore, private) school tradition of one or more small stores within the school selling candy, sausage rolls, pies, etc. to zitty teenage pupils, made ravenous by afternoons of rugby on freezing muddy fields and similar kinds of peculiar typical British homoeroticisms.
I should go back and check out their wares thoroughly however, because, for me, the one highlight of real Australian food is beet(root) in everything, and afterwards, I might just happen to accidentally fall through the door at Prune and order some more marrow bones...

Courtney - I know what you mean! But don't you remember that that was the best part of the bone? My mom told me that when she was little she would fight her brothers for the bone w/ the marrow still in it, so it's obviously always been a fave. But, now it doesn't seem that weird to charge $15 for 3! Crazy, huh?

Mark: Totally go... and then blog about it. I want to see what you think. We really loved it. I noticed the Tuck Shop but have never been there. You've def. got me intrigued w/ the words thai + chicken pot pie together! Thanks for the tip.

Hey, Arif! It blows my mind that it's taken us this long to get there and it really isn't that expensive (we always claim being poor for the reason why we don't go to those kind of restaurants). We really enjoyed ourselves.

way back when we lived in New York, my wife and I dined at Prune and loved it. We still talk about that meal, and I'm happy to hear that they're still continuing to offer great and distinctive food.

YUM! I walk by this place all the time, and always think "hmm I gotta try this place out sometime" but have never been. Now it's definitely going on my list. By the way, have you been to the "Tuck Shop" a couple doors down? Their Thai Chicken Pot Pies are to die for.
