I’ve been a fan of Dubonnet since I was in University…far too many years to care to tell…& still love it! Here in Canada, the 3 varieties are available but my favourite is still by far the Rouge. For the most part, I drink in on ice with a squeeze of lemon. But, in the heat of the summer, I enjoy it mixed with club soda & lemon or tonic & lemon…it’s very refreshing & equally delicious! I have a funny tale of my 1st visit to New York. My brother, sister-in-law & I went to Gallagher’s for a drink at the bar. They both ordered beer & I, always being the last one to order, asked for a Dubonnet on ice w/lemon. The bartender looked at me & said sarcastically “you must Canadian”. I laughed & asked what gave me away, whereby he told me that in all his years of bartending (he was in his late 60’s), Canadians were the only patrons to request Dubonnet. Fortunately, they didn’t have it, as I was then introduced to Lillet. It was a very happy discovery, thanks to the bartender!!

Oh I do like Dubbonet.. and I am so glad to know the queen and I have so much in common as ‘one’ does like a gin and dubonnet before lunch.
Nice post, good writing as usual. I know the kind of Pub, the kind of clients and the kind of chatter only too well.

I’ve never tasted Dubonnet but my parents always have a bottle. I smelled it and did not like it. Was yrs ago. Maybe I should try it now.
